Our Story

We are Island Beats!

We’re your homegirls with a passion to workout and party! When you leave our Zumba® classes and events, you’ll feel joyful, energized, and confident about moving your body and ready to unleash your inner shine!

The Zumba® formula is 70% Latin music and 30% of everything else. A typical Zumba® class will feature different world rhythms such as Samba, Hip Hop, and Bellydance. In Island Beats, we spotlight Latin and Caribbean rhythms such as Merengue, Salsa, Reggaeton, Bachata, Soca, Dancehall, and Afro Beats. The overall effect is that our class feels more like a party than working out at the gym.

Island Beats was created entirely as a coincidental leap of faith. It all started when Iris was substituting a Zumba® class for another instructor in April of 2019. Her dance skill and positive energy resonated, especially with Zoe. Once they connected in that class, the rest was history.

A friendship blossomed into a mentoring relationship which eventually turned into the business partnership you see today!

Now, together we host:

  • Virtual and In-person Zumba® classes
  • Signature Dance Workshops (Bachata & Merengue)
  • Zumba® Masterclasses
  • Private Parties for individuals and organizations
  • Private lessons

Meet Iris

Iris, a Brooklyn native of Dominican heritage, brings over a decade of Zumba® experience to Island Beats. She lived in West Palm Beach, Florida, for years, where she became a certified Zumba® instructor and taught people of all skill levels, backgrounds, and ages before bringing her talents to Cleveland! Iris is considered a “salsera,” and you can witness her shine whenever a Salsa song comes on!

Meet Zoe

Cleveland native, Zoe Brown, has always had an appreciation for different cultures. Her exposure to various Island cultures growing up helped her develop a love and appreciation for the people and the culture, especially the music. Since becoming a certified Zumba® instructor in late 2019, she expresses that love through teaching others Merengue and inspiring them to shine!
